How do you install a shaders mod in Minecraft 1.12.2?

It doesn't; it's been surpassed by Minecraft 1.12.2 in size of mod selection.

It has a large number of mods available because it was the stable modding target for a long time. Modded lags behind vanilla because changes to vanilla necessitate both updates to mods and modding frameworks like Forge 1.12.2.

That means that if Mojang releases versions close enough together, modded might practically skip versions entirely, as happened with 1.8 through 1.11, minus a lull around 1.10 that modders used as a stepping-stone for updating. Even as 1.10 produced some updates, players kept playing 1.7.10 because of inertia and the better mod selection it had.

It looks like 1.13 will also be a transitional version: modders will probably use it as a stepping stone but have 1.14 (or later?) be the next major stable version.
