Mkurugenzi wa Benki ya Dunia (WB), David Malpass, amesema uchumi wa dunia unakumbwa na pigo kubwa kutokana na janga la covid-19, ambalo mwaka huu litaweza kuwafanya watu zaidi ya milioni 60 kuingia kwenye kundi la umasikini uliokithiri. Kwa mujibu wa ripoti ya Matarajio ya Uchumi wa Dunia robo tatu ya mwaka 2020, Malpass amebainisha kuwa nchi zinazoendelea zinakabiliwa na tishio lisilotarajiwa la kiafya na kiuchumi, ambalo litaathiri maendeleo kwa miongo kadhaa. Ripoti hiyo pia inasema hatua kali za karantini zilizochukuliwa kukabiliana na janga hilo la covid-19 zimesababisha kudorora kwa uchumi katika nchi mbalimbali.

WAKULIMA wa vitunguu wa Kata ya Nyankongolwa katika Halmashauri ya Mji wa Bariadi, mkoani Simiyu, wameiomba serikali kusimamia soko la zao hilo ili wapate faida kutokana na kuzalisha vitunguu kwa wingi na kwa gharama kubwa. Aidha, wameiomba serikali kuweka soko la pamoja (one stop centre) la bidhaa hiyo ili wapate tija na waondokane na walanguzi wanaonunua vitunguu kwa bei ya chini wakati huo huo sehemu zingine wakiuza kwa bei ya juu.

Soaring inflows, dwindling dollar demand stabilise shilling

TANZANIAN shilling has remained stable as pressure eases, thanks to an increase of inflows and slowdown in demand of US dollars, banks said on Tuesday. However, they warned that demand remains pausing pressure on the shilling unless inflows improve in the coming days.
