CRDB Bank targets bigger pie of the blue economy proceeds in the Spice Islands

CRDB Bank yesterday opened a branch in Wete, Pemba as it seeks to play a role in supporting Zanzibar’s economic growth aspirations, particularly, through the government’s blue economy model. Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi graced the branch opening event, which also involved the distribution of over 272 motorcycles and 94 boats to economic undertakings owned by the youth and women groups in the Isles. In February, this year, Zanzibar government and CRDB Bank signed an agreement that will have the latter disbursing Sh81.8 billion to stimulate economic activities in the Isles. The package encompasses Sh60 billion that will be disbursed in form of interest-free loans to income-generating groups in Zanzibar while the remaining Sh21.8 billion will be allocated for improvement of the necessary infrastructure in the Isles that will enable the income-generating groups to conduct their undertakings in modern facilities. CRDB Bank’s managing director Abdulmajid Nsekela said since February, the lender has already disbursed a total of Sh6.7 billion in interest-free loans to entrepreneurs in Zanzibar whereby Sh2.8 billion has gone to Pemba. “I thank the government for entrusting us with the management of its Sh60 billion fund for loaning to SMEs under the blue economy model. This trust is what has led us to expand our branch network to Wete District in North Pemba,” Mr Nsekela said. ADVERTISEMENT The beneficiaries include 6,178 women and 5,628 men. The Wete Branch will offer both traditional and Islamic banking services. The branch opening also saw the bank handing over Sh273.8 million to Shirikani, Umoja ni Nguvu and Mategemeo cooperative societies in the Isles. In his remarks, Dr Mwinyi said the disbursement of the funds was in line with his campaign pledge of lifting lives of the people of Zanzibar through the blue economy model. “We have promised and now we are implementing. WADAU WAHIMIZWA KUTOA ELIMU KUHUSU TAARIFA ZA MMILIKI MANUFAA

Wakala Wa Usajili Wa Biashara na Leseni (BRELA), imetoa wito kwa wadau kutoa elimu kuhusu dhana ya Mmliki Manufa katika kampuni, Ili taarifa hizo zipatikane kwa mujibu wa sheria. Akizungumza katika warsha ya siku mbili kuhusu uhamasishaji wa wadau kutoa taarifa hizo, inayofanyika katika ukumbi wa Chuo Cha Benki Kuu Jijini Mwanza, Kaimu Mkurugenzi wa Kurugenzi ya Kampuni na Majina ya Biashara, Bw. Meinrad Rweyemamu amesema kuwa taarifa hizo zinapaswa kuwasilishwa kwa mujibu sheria Ili kupata taarifa muhimu na sahihi za mmiliki halali wa kampuni. BRELA, FCC, SIDO KUIMARISHA USHIRIKIANO

Wakala wa Usajili wa Biashara na Leseni (BRELA), imesaini makubaliano ya ushirikiano na Tume ya ushindani (FCC), wakati huo huo FCC ikisaini na Shirika la Kuhudumia Viwanda Vidogo (SIDO), yenye lengo la kuboresha mazingira uwekezaji nchini. Akizungumza mara baada ya utiaji saini makubaliano ya ushirikiano huo Afisa Mtendaji Mkuu wa BRELA, Bw. Godfrey Nyaisa amesema BRELA ipo tayari kutoa ushirikiano kwa taasisi hiyo ikiwa ni pamoja na kutoa taarifa mbalimbali pale zinapohitajika. Bw. Nyaisa amesema kuwa ushirikiano wa taasisi hizo za Serikali ambazo zinawezesha biashara utatoa fursa kwa wawekezaji kupata masoko ya uhakika huku bidhaa zao zikiwa zinatambulika na Mamlaka husika. CRDB HAS SLASHED SALARY LOANS

CRDB has slashed salary loans interst rate to 14 percent to enable workers to realize their ambitions under a new campaign at a time when market rates are over 17 per cent.

The bank's new interest rate is the lowest in the market and came at time when the economy striving to flatten the Covid-19 curve while workers are struggling to cope up with post pandemic realities.

CRDB's Director of Retail Banking, Boma Raballa said under the campaign "Jichie Utakavyo" salaried workers have more room for choosing on payment period to whether pay between one to seven years.

"The rate slases give workers a broader spectrum of borrowing at lower cost, longer time and freedom to choose what they want, " Mr Raballa said adding while reducing payment burden to beneficiaries.

The initiative, according to CRDB, also allowed a beneficiary -from public or private sector -to choose a loan term that is in line with his/ her a need and interest rate. The loan ceiling amount is 100m/-

"A customer has the freedom to choose the paymwnt period from one, two, three until seven years, "the director said.

The interest rate, however, carters for salaried workers in public or private sectors the interest is calculated on reducing rate method.

Commenting on the bank improvements to salary loans, Head of Consumer  Banking, Stephen Adili, said they are recognising the huge contribution  of public and private sector employees to the economy.

"We recognise the challenges we have faced during this (coronavirus) period. And we have been at the forefront to simplify  these challenges in every aspect.

"This 'Jiachie Utakavyo' campaign is part of the appreciation of all employees, but also to help them achieve their goals, "said Mr Adili.

CRDB Senior Manager Personal Banking, Ms Farida Hamza used the launching soft ceremony to wooing workers to seize the opportunity to enable easing person finacial stress. The loans are available 24 hours after application.

"The loan are not only for CRDB customers but for all employees in the counrty. The bank also buyout employee laons in other banks, " Ms Farida said.

The loan application, according to CRDB, is simple since applicant needs national recognizable IDs, salary slips for three months and employment contract and employer letters.

This is the second time CRDB cut down borrowing interest rate. The first time was in May 2018 when reduced the rate to 16 per cent from 22 per cent to reduce borrowers' payback burden.
